Direct Booking System for Hotels: Cut OTA Commission with Tap2Stay

Tap2Stay by 3H Decor is an app-free direct booking gateway that helps boutique hotels keep 100% profit, own guest data, and upsell services.

Most hotels don't have a demand problem. They have a conversion problem.

After more than 10 years working across IT, design, and digital marketing for the hospitality industry, I've noticed the same pattern over and over again.

Many hotels, guesthouses, and small resorts already have:

  • Beautiful rooms
  • Great locations
  • Genuinely good service

Yet they still struggle to convert interest into direct bookings. They're constantly feeding OTAs, paying 15-25% commission on every reservation, and never really owning their guest data.

In this post, I want to talk honestly about what I'm building with 3H Decor, and why Tap2Stay exists.

The 4 pain points I see in almost every small hospitality business

From a 6-room homestay in Da Lat to a 30-room boutique resort by the sea, the story is always the same:

  1. Heavy OTA dependency. Booking, Agoda, Expedia, Traveloka — they take 15-25% of every booking. Some months, the commission is bigger than the profit.
  2. Losing guests when OTA shows "sold out". The rooms are actually still available, but the OTA has closed inventory, so the potential guest walks away.
  3. Missed upsell opportunities. Spa, tours, airport transfer, F&B — all disconnected from the booking journey. The guest has already paid, and nobody suggests anything else.
  4. Friction-heavy booking process. Message on Facebook, wait for reply, send credit card details, wait for confirmation... 5 to 7 steps, and the guest is gone.

The issue is rarely the product. The issue is the system.

What Tap2Stay actually is — and what it is not

Tap2Stay is the flagship product of 3H Decor. And I want to be clear from the start: it is not another "website project" that looks nice and sits there.

It is a conversion-focused booking gateway designed to:

  1. Turn social media traffic into real booking inquiries.
  2. Turn those inquiries into upsell opportunities (spa, tours, F&B).
  3. Keep 100% of the guest data for long-term remarketing.

How it compares to traditional OTA distribution

Criteria Traditional OTA Tap2Stay
Commission per booking 15-25% 0% — you keep the full revenue
Guest needs to install an app? Usually yes No — opens in any mobile browser
Who owns guest data? The OTA You, 100%
Setup time Days to weeks A few hours, email-first workflow
In-flow upsell Hard to integrate Built into the booking flow

Email-first workflow — your team doesn't need to learn new software

One of the design principles I'm most proud of is the email-first workflow.

Many small hotel owners have told me: "My front desk staff isn't technical. If you give them a new dashboard, everything breaks."

I hear that. So Tap2Stay does not ask your team to learn a complex PMS. Every booking inquiry, every request, goes straight to the email of your sales or reservations team.

They open the email, reply, confirm the booking. That's it.

For the guest, the experience is just as light. They tap a link from Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or a QR code in the room. The page opens in their browser. No app download. No account creation. No friction.

3H Decor is bigger than just Tap2Stay

Tap2Stay is the core product, but 3H Decor is really a full digital approach for hospitality businesses.

When I work with a property, I don't just set up the booking gateway and walk away. The full stack includes:

  • Social media — Facebook, Instagram, TikTok optimized to drive traffic into Tap2Stay.
  • Google Maps & TripAdvisor — handling negative reviews, encouraging genuine positive ones.
  • In-room QR codes — guests scan to order room service, book spa, reserve tours.
  • Email automation — post-checkout thank you, return-visit incentives, upsell campaigns.
  • Contact management — all guest data consolidated in one place for remarketing.

I call this "digital for hospitality" — not being online for the sake of it, but being online in a way that actually generates revenue.

Who Tap2Stay is NOT for

Let me be honest here. Tap2Stay is not a magic solution for everyone.

If you run a 300-room 5-star chain with your own PMS, revenue management team, and central reservation system, Tap2Stay is not built for you.

But if you operate:

  • A 5-15 room homestay
  • A boutique hotel under 50 rooms
  • A small beach or mountain resort
  • A local restaurant that wants direct table reservations

...and you feel like you're "getting guests but can't close them", or "feeding the OTAs too much", then the problem might not be your property. It might be the way you're selling it.

A note from where I'm writing this

I'm writing this from Thailand, where I'm currently doing a Workaway placement — which means I'm both a digital nomad and, in a small way, a hospitality host myself.

That dual perspective matters. I understand what guests feel when they browse, when they hesitate, when they abandon a booking. And I understand what hosts feel when they see another 20% leave their revenue to an OTA.

If you want to read more about my digital nomad journey and how it connects to the work I do, you can check my about page or the Workaway guide I put together.

Where are you stuck?

I'd genuinely like to hear from people running small hospitality businesses:

  • Are you struggling to find guests?
  • Or to close them once they inquire?
  • Or to retain them so they come back a second and third time?

Leave a comment or send me a message. If you run a hotel, resort, homestay, or restaurant, I'm happy to take a quick look at your current booking flow and share honest feedback — no pitch, no sales call.

Just a perspective from someone who has been on both sides of this industry for more than a decade.

In the next posts, I'll break down the actual implementation: the booking flow, the in-room QR setup, the email automation. If you want to follow along, bookmark 5bien.com.
